Hardwood Decking
Cumaru

This is a hardwood from South America and is often referred to as Brazilian Teak in the timber trade. For use as outside decking it is one of the top three most durable and beautiful woods to use.
The heartwood is reddish brown with wavy grain and a natural shine which give the wood a decorative effect. The texture of the wood is fine and even. The drying process is slow to increase stability and all boards are kiln dried to 18% moisture content for external use.
The wood is durable and resistant to fungal and insect damage. Investigations by the Federal Research Institute for Forestry and Forest Products in Hamburg classify its durability as Class 1. Cumaru is over five times harder than pine decking and rated for a minimum of 30 years in service. The surface produces no splinters, resists scratches and stays smooth under use.
We import Cumaru in 2.4m + lengths which are wax sealed on either end and unilaterally grooved on one side and serrated on the other so as to give you the choice to fit either side up. Fasten each board with two stainless steel screws on each cross support. The screw holes through the planks should be drilled and countersunk. The ideal length for the screws is 50mm.
